Healthy Eating

Healthy Eating Program

Our law and policy experts focus on nutrition and obesity prevention, such as food labeling regulation, school food policies and food marketing strategies aimed at children. We’re partners in a nationwide legal network to support childhood obesity prevention strategies − the National Policy and Legal Analysis Network to Prevent Childhood Obesity (NPLAN).  As key members of NPLAN, we help develop, implement and defend innovative legal policies designed to promote healthy eating by children, such as improved nutrition standards in schools.

We work on legal policies and strategies in areas such as point of purchase nutrition and menu labeling, trans fat bans and food pricing, and we explore legal options, obstacles and opportunities in many areas of food policy, including the U.S. Farm Bill and the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC).  Our latest initiative is a national study of the strengths and weaknesses of industry self-regulation of food marketing practices that contribute to childhood obesity.
