This Consortium webinar gives members of the tobacco control and public health community a short refresher on how laws in general – and tobacco control laws in particular – are passed at the federal, state, and local levels. Although the webinar uses examples from tobacco control, the session is of interest to all in the public health world. Presenters describe the different roles of local, state, and federal governing bodies and how these bodies pass laws; offer guidelines on how to draft solid tobacco control policies using the best practices in the field; and provide insight on how advocates can use this information in their daily work.
