Mia Montoya Hammersley is the Director of Climate Justice at the Public Health Law Center. Mia leads a team providing legal technical assistance on climate-justice issues to advocates, community groups, local and tribal governments.

She was previously the Director of the Environmental Justice Clinic and an Assistant Professor of law at the Vermont Law & Graduate School. Before that, she was a staff attorney with the New Mexico Environmental Law Center, working in partnership with communities experiencing disproportionate environmental health harms; an associate attorney with a boutique Indian law firm where she represented Tribal Nations in Arizona's state water adjudication; and the Healthy Communities Legal Fellow with Earthjustice. She also served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Justice David K. Thomson on the New Mexico Supreme Court. In 2021, she was a recipient of the Young, Gifted, and Green 40 Under 40 Award, presented to environmental justice leaders working to address the climate crisis and dismantle environmental racism.
