Nina Omeaku is the Director of Healthy Eating and Active Living at the Public Health Law Center. Nina leads a team providing legal technical assistance to support Tribal, state, and local communities in developing laws and policies to create culturally responsive environments for healthy living which support healthy food systems, physical activity, and health equity.

Prior to joining PHLC, she worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Chronic Disease and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) as a Health Scientist and a contracted Lead Public Health Policy Analyst within the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP). At the CDC, she supported and led their public health policy and legal epidemiology portfolios across a myriad of topics including stroke systems of care, community health workers, telehealth policy, civil rights policy, community paramedicine, pharmacist scope of practice, tribal policy, and home rule.

Previously, she worked as an Associate Attorney with the Law Offices of Nathaniel L. Smith, P.C. – working primarily on family and child welfare issues – and led a hospital-based community initiative at the Cone Health Regional Cancer Center focused on reducing and/or eliminating financial toxicity (i.e., the negative impact medical expenses can have on patients' health related quality of life). Additionally, she has taught collegiate, graduate, and law courses.
