In January, the Climate Justice team co-drafted and joined other public health organizations and scholars as signatories to two amicus briefs in youth-led constitutional lawsuits filed by Our Children's Trust. In the first, Dunn v. Wisconsin Public Service Commission, plaintiffs aged 8 to 17 argue that their fundamental rights are being violated by Wisconsin laws that currently prohibit the Public Service Commission from considering air pollution in its permitting decisions for fossil fuel infrastructure and block the development of new renewable energy sources. In the second case, Lighthiser v. Trump, youth plaintiffs are challenging the Trump administration's series of executive orders "unleashing" fossil fuel development and targeting climate science and renewable energy development. Both amicus briefs discuss the repercussions of air pollution and climate change on the health of the youth plaintiffs over the course of their lifetimes if their rights are not protected by the courts.
